Our mission is to amplify new voices. We nurture and publish work from the fringes that challenges and inspires.

We want stories that use the old and the new, stories that experiment and reimagine, stories that invoke the power of language to transport readers over thresholds.

Tall Grass Press is an independent publishing house that seeks out the finest new literary fiction and narrative non-fiction.

TALL GRASS UNIVERSITY SERIES

12 submission windows. 12 universities. One anthology.

Tall Grass Press are delighted to announce the Tall Grass University Series. Over the next twelve months, we will be open to submissions of short fiction and non-fiction from
students, staff, and alumni of twelve different universities across the UK.

Each month we will open our submissions portal to a specific university only. One piece of work will then be selected and published on our website. At year’s end, the winning entries will be compiled and published in an annual anthology.

We will accept all forms of short fiction except genre fiction, YA, or children’s books.

We will accept all forms of non-fiction: essay, memoir, auto-fiction.

Our guideline word count is 1,000–3,000 words.

All submissions should be previously unpublished.

Submissions should be in one .doc, .docx attachment and double-spaced.

All submissions will be closely read but due to the volume of submissions we will be unable to provide personalised feedback on unsuccessful submissions.

Please e-mail submissions to [email protected]. In the subject line please state whether the piece is fiction or non-fiction, followed by your name and the title of your piece. For example: [non-fiction] John Doe – My Memoir. We do not accept submissions by post.

We look forward to receiving and reading your work!

our mission

We believe in taking risks on new writing.

Our aim is to help writers from all backgrounds fulfil their creative potential by producing books that matter. We want narratives from the margins. Stories that confront the mainstream. Our mission is to bring these books to wider audiences and help showcase voices that reflect the ever changing fabric of modern society.

Environmental responsibility is key to our ethos.

Never before has it been so important for cultural organisations to explore sustainable ways of operating. Therefore our books will not utilise plastic based finishes. Only ethically sourced paper will be used. From choice of ink, paper, printing and distribution, we will continually seek out the newest technologies to print books that make as little impact to the environment as possible. We will do this while maintaining the highest standards of design and production.

about us

Padhraic holds an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Hull. His work has been published by The Irish Independent, Reflex Press, and Vallesos. He is currently in production of his debut novel.

Mark holds an MA in Publishing Studies from Oxford Brookes University.

Together, they co-founded and ran a language school in Barcelona dedicated to education through the arts. The school also served the wider community as a cultural centre that gave people the opportunity to interact with live literature through poetry nights and readings. After ten years, they have opted to leave the world of education to focus their efforts solely on literature. Their aim is to provide a platform for emerging voices and publish outstanding new writing.
